10 week-ends at 2H from Paris without car

The sea in Deauville or Trouville

Deauville is this great beach with its mythical promenade, the famous “Planches de Deauville”, and its colorful umbrellas. It’s this city that is dedicated to horse lovers. It is an ideal place to do a thalasso not far from Paris.

Don’t miss the visit of the beautiful neighboring village of Trouville, more authentic and preserved, which can be reached by crossing a simple bridge.

Walk on the beach in Deauville

Getting there: 1h40 by train from Paris Gare Saint-Lazare.

The port of Honfleur

Honfleur is located a few steps away from the popular Deauville… but I find that it has a very different charm, keeping more of a village spirit. It is the opportunity to stroll on its pretty fishing harbor, to discover the Vieux Bassin and the Enclos district, within the walled city.

To get there: 1 hour and 40 minutes by train from Paris Gare Saint-Lazare (stop at Deauville station), then a bus from Deauville to Honfleur (line 20 from the bus station, about half an hour).

The medieval city of Provins

Provins is a rather incredible medieval city, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With its 13th century ramparts, its dungeon, its underground passages, its unique architecture and atmosphere, it is a city worth visiting, especially if you like photography! You’ll have a blast.

Getting there: 1h24 by Transilien (line P) from Paris Gare de l’Est.

Flowers in Gisors and Giverny

Gisors, in Normandy, is also a worthwhile stopover for a weekend around Paris. The town itself has a beautiful castle, where the Templars are said to have hidden their treasure. It can also be the starting point for walks in the Vexin, about fifteen kilometers away. To choose rather for a stay of well-being and oxygenation!

It is also worthwhile to go to Giverny to discover Claude Monet’s property, with its water garden which inspired the painter. The visit itself is usually a matter of a few hours and can easily be combined with a stay in Gisors: the two places are located about 40 kilometers from each other.

Getting there: 47 min (Paris –> Vernon station) then shuttle (15 minutes after the train) to Giverny.

The artists’ village of Auvers-sur-Oise

Bordered by the forest and the wheat fields, this village has always inspired artists and particularly the Impressionists. Stone houses, low walls covered with ivy, steep paths leading to wheat fields, forests and the banks of the Oise… By escaping industrialization, Auvers-sur-Oise has remained practically the same since the 19th century, when Van Gogh, Cézanne and Pissarro came here to draw their inspiration.

Getting there: 47 min (H train)

Shopping and moules frites in Lille

This is a very good idea for a weekend not far from Paris. Go and discover the pretty Grand’Place, walk in the streets of the Old Lille with its typical architecture… You can also go up to the top of the belfry of the Town Hall (which is the highest in Europe with 104 meters high) for an amazing view of the city.

Lille is also rich in museums, especially for art lovers. On Sundays, you can go to the big market of Wazemmes.

The castle at Vaux-le-Vicomte

The castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte is famous… and it is located only 50 kilometers from Paris! A visit to the entire castle can take a day if you take the time to discover both the interior and the French gardens. From spring to early autumn, Vaux-le-Vicomte also organizes candlelight evenings, where the castle is lit by a few thousand candles.

Getting there: with the Transilien line P from the Gare de l’Est in Paris, the trip takes about 35-40 minutes to the Verneuil l’Etang train station, where shuttles serve the castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte during certain seasons.

The stables of Chantilly

Discover the Château de Chantilly, the Grandes Écuries and the surrounding park with its “Potager des Princes”, half animal park, half botanical garden… It is a city turned towards nature lovers, with many possible horse rides, the Chantilly Forest and the Commelle Ponds which are located there.

Getting there: 25 minutes by train from Paris Gare du Nord.

The ancient stronghold of Moret sur Loing

Moret sur Loing, an exceptional and privileged site, located on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest, is an ancient stronghold on the border of Ile de France and Burgundy. This medieval city has a very rich architectural heritage, which it has preserved and enhanced throughout its history.

Getting there: Access by train from Gare de Lyon in Paris, arrival station: “Moret-Veneux-les-Sablons”.

The US at Disneyland Paris

How to go on a weekend near Paris and still feel like you’re in another world? Just walk through the gates of Disneyland. There are those who love it and those who hate it… but it has the merit of totally disconnecting from everyday life!

Getting there: 45 minutes by RER (line A).
