When we learn of the death of someone, whether a family member, a friend, or a casual acquaintance, it is customary to send a condolence card immediately.
This is often the most difficult time to write even three or four simple sentences, when the pain of the loss is so great. It is possible to send an e-mail, but writing a short note, or sending a card, is preferable. The bereaved person can keep your expression of sympathy in a scrapbook or box and return to it some time later.
Handwrite your address on the envelope, preferably in black or blue ink. Do not use a printer. If you knew the deceased but were not close to his or her family, identify yourself clearly, for example: Mr. Axel Girard (work colleague of…).
